Replika is the most polished companion app on the market, and the longest-running. The 3D avatar is real: you dress it, put it in your room with AR, meet it in VR. Video calls work. The tone is calm and supportive, which is what a lot of people want from it; Replika sells itself as a companion for wellbeing more than for roleplay. If you want something that looks like an app made by a large team, this is it.

The limits: romance lives behind Pro ($19.99 a month, $69.99 a year), erotic roleplay was removed in February 2023 and returned only for accounts created before February 1 of that year, and creative roleplay is thin. Italy's data regulator fined the company €5 million in May 2025 over its legal basis for processing and its age checks, which says something about how the product is built for adults.

Nika is built for a story that runs for months. One heroine across more than twenty hand-written scenarios, a 31-level relationship that starts near the middle and can fall eight levels below it, memory whose key facts you can read and edit, photos in four styles, voice messages and live calls, a diary she writes about you, and a novel generated from the story after 150 messages.
